This year, FatCat Strategies is celebrating its 15th anniversary. It’s been hard work, but Founder & Managing Partner Janet Mobley knew it would be worth the effort.
“I had worked in various corporate jobs, and honestly I was bored. I would do the same thing every day, and there never seemed to be any opportunities to advance or improve my skills. I wanted to create a work environment where people were encouraged to expand and grow. I wanted people to be excited to come to work.”
The FatCat team continues to grow, and now includes graphic designers, illustrators, animators, copywriters, web developers, and experts in social media, content marketing, and inbound marketing.
When we first started, we worked in a pretty typical agency fashion, completing small projects on an individual basis. A logo here, and brochure there, hundreds of stand-alone pieces. They were exactly what our clients asked for, but we knew we could add more value.
That’s when Janet developed our “virtual marketing department” service, giving us the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with clients, where we get to know their business as well as we know our own.
“I didn’t just want to make one-off pieces. I wanted to work as a partner with our clients. We can make a great looking brochure, but if your goal is to grow your revenues by 20%, how is a brochure going to help you do that? The only way that works is as part of a larger, more comprehensive plan. I wanted to have those bigger conversations, and help our clients develop strategies to achieve those goals.”
Now, we work with over a dozen clients as their “virtual marketing department,” many of whom have been with us for several years. We act as an extension of their company, working on several initiatives at a time, and helping to evolve their marketing to adapt to their current needs.
“We are always so proud to watch our client’s businesses change and grow. Even when that leads to them expanding to the point that they need to hire an in-house team of their own. That just means we’ve done our job, we’ve helped their business flourish.”
The world of marketing has changed pretty drastically in the past 15 years. When FatCat first started, we were making HTML websites, and Facebook hadn’t even been invented yet.
Now we’re creating intricate WordPress sites with custom built applications tailored to our clients’ needs. We’re planning and executing complex digital marketing campaigns that involve email, SEO, social media, and podcast components. Our team is still crafting beautiful and modern designs, while always making sure that our work fits into a larger marketing plan.
“Anniversaries are about looking at the past. But I am much more excited about the future. I can’t wait to see where the next 15 years leads us.”
