Growing a luxury niche brand

An 8-year journey: from start-up to nationally-recognized niche luxury brand.

From 2008-2017, FatCat helped this Durham-based luxury automotive service provider grow its revenue and staff 10x.

From The Client

Cam

“FatCat Strategies was instrumental in helping us with the social media and marketing logistics for the grand opening of our new facility in Durham, North Carolina. Their staff has taken the time to understand the nature of our business and consistently deliver compelling marketing materials for our niche business. They have helped us reach new heights by being a business partner that we can always depend on.”

Social media is just one component that we helped manage over the course of our relationship.
We helped launch and grow an email "magazine". Over a 2-year period, the magazine helped increase web traffic by 350%.
Over the course of our business partnership, we designed countless promotional materials, including the postcards shown above promoting the grand opening of the Durham shop.

The Client

Road Scholars sells, restores and services historically significant collectible automobiles, with a speciality focus on Porsche. Although the company is headquartered in Durham, NC, it serves clients all over the country. In fact, many collectors ship their cars across several states to take advantage of the company’s award winning restoration and repair services.

The Background

In 2008, Road Scholars came to FatCat because they wanted help developing a display ad campaign for several high-end automotive enthusiast magazines. Almost immediately after we pitched our first ad concepts, the owners asked us to take over all of their marketing.

Over the course of 8+ years, as the company changed and expanded, we helped Road Scholars with almost every component of their evolving brand – from web development, PR, and event promotion, to email marketing, coffee table books and t-shirt designs.

We supported the company as they competed in dozens of restoration competitions, expanded their inventory, launched an online magazine, built a location in the San Juan Islands and expanded their service offering and facilities here in the Triangle.

Email Marketing

Road Scholars Magazine is an ongoing blog filled with information and ideas relevant to the automobile industry and car-collecting world. Each issue consists of 5-7 articles and includes high quality images taken by professional photographers. We’re proud of the role we played in growing their subscriber base.

Web maintenance

FatCat maintained the Road Scholars website throughout our partnership, and over the course of eight years ushered it through several different redesigns.

Since the inception of the RS Magazine, they have seen explosive growth. Over a two year period, the average number of monthly visitors grew nearly 350%, and they are also consistently seeing more than half of their web traffic from new visitors.

A new era

In early 2017, Road Scholars decided it was time to begin staffing their own full-time, in-house marketing department. Although our client-vendor relationship has ended, an enduring friendship remains.

We think the story of our long journey with Road Scholars is a great example of our commitment to helping our clients grow and transition into new phases of their business.

The work shown here is just a tiny sample of the various projects we completed in partnership with the talented and hard-working owners of Road Scholars.
